Basket Weaving Classes- First State Capitol

Join staff members at First Missouri State Capitol State Historic Site to make a beautiful handcrafted basket. This event is part of a series of monthly basket weaving classes held at the site. Each class runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All materials will be supplied, although you may wish to bring snacks and a drink. If the weather is nice, the class may be held outside; otherwise, it will take place in the interpretive center upstairs on the second floor. The second floor is NOT ADA accessible and only accessed via stairs. Class size is limited, and registration is required. Registration for the January through June classes opens Jan. 3; registration for the July to November classes opens June 2. You may sign up for any day that a particular class is being offered. The $5 registration fee is separate and not part of the advertised class cost. Please check our website or Facebook page for individual class costs. You may also sign up for multiple classes. Boogeyman BBQ Contest - Stockton SP

Barbecue/Grill your best ribs, chicken, and/or burgers for a chance to win this competition. Prizes will be given for each category of ribs, chicken, and burgers. You can sign up for one, two, or all three categories. If multiple people are cooking as a team, only 1 person needs to sign up for each category. Judging will begin at 7 pm near the check station in the East Campground on October 25, 2025.


Campsite Decorating Contest - Stockton SP

1. Campsite decorating - Participants are encouraged to decorate their campsite for Halloween and participate in trick-or-treating for the kids. A group of judges will score based on theme, originality, lights, and attention to detail. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. ALL PARK RULES STILL APPLY! (No nailing to trees/buildings, damaging any resources, etc.) Any violation of the park rules will result in immediate elimination from the contest. Judging for the contest will begin at 7 pm on October 25, 2025.


Dark Sky Nights

Join expert astronomers to view and learn about the night sky! Telescopes will be provided, but feel free to bring your own too! Meet at the Visitor Center parking lot at Onondaga Cave State Park. These programs are subject to being rescheduled due to inclement weather and cloud coverage.


Halloween Trail Runs

Crowder State Park will be hosting Halloween trail runs on Saturday, Oct. 25. There will be a 1-mile fun run on the group camp trail, a 5K on Tall Oaks Trail, a 10K on Tall Oaks and Redbud trails, and a marathon on every section of trail in the park. There will also be a costume contest for all who participate in one of the runs. Each run will begin at 8 a.m., directly after the costume contest. Snacks and water will be available along the routes for participants. Medals will be given to the top three female and male finishers in each age group (18 and younger, 19-59, and 60 and over) in each distance. Awards will also be given for the top three places in the costume contest. Registration is required and must be completed by Oct. 20. T-shirts will be given to those who register by Oct. 3. There is a fee of $25 for registration. To register, you will first need to go to icampmo.com, click on the "Activities" tab at the top, and select "Crowder State Park" for the place. From there, click on "Show sessions" below "Halloween Trail Run," and click "Sign Up!" next to the run you wish to participate in. Then, click "Sign Up Now!" Historic District Walking Tour

Outdoor walking tours of the streets of Ste. Genvieve. Different topics will be covered at different times of year. Learn more about the available topics in the open sessions. These tours are presented in collaboration between Missouri State Parks and the National Park Service. Please arrive 15 minutes prior to tour start time. All tours begin at the Ste. Genevieve Welcome Center located at 66 S Main St, Ste. Genevieve, MO 63670


Katy Trail Fall Colors Tours

Join Missouri State Parks and Boone Electric Cooperative for the eleventh annual Katy Trail Fall Colors Tram Tours on Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 22nd & 23rd 2025. The two-hour long round-trip tours will take visitors on the Katy Trail between Rocheport and McBaine in the comfort of an open-air tram coach. An interpretive guide with a PA system will provide a presentation on the history of the Katy Trail, and commentary on the local natural and cultural history along the trail. Free pre-registration is required with a suggested donation of $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 12 and under. Tours will be offered at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m each day, departing from the Rocheport Trailhead. Each tour includes six trams with each tram providing seating for 20 people. Registration opens on Tuesday, September 2rd. Reservations may be made over the phone by calling the Katy Trail State Park office at 573-449-7402 or online at MoParks.com. In the event of inclement weather, the tours will be canceled. Dates: Wednesday October 22nd and Thursday October 23rd Tour Times: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1:30-3:30 p.m. each day Location: Tours begin at the Rocheport and make a round trip to McBaine.


Learn2 AIM

Begin your archer journey by attending a hands-on workshop this summer! Take a step back in time and join Missouri State Parks for the Learn2 Aim event. This is a great opportunity to learn new skills with joint instruction on the basics of archery and atlatl throwing. The program is free and available to ages 10 and up. Missouri State Parks provides the equipment and expertise in a safe environment – you bring your enthusiasm to learn a skill that ties back to Missouri history.


Learn2 Paddle

This summer, staff will be offering kayaking instruction at select Missouri state parks. This will be a great opportunity to try something new and experience some of Missouri's lakes. We supply the equipment and the expertise; you supply the enthusiasm and an eagerness to discover nature and a new skill. Missouri State Parks Provides: Kayaks. Paddle. Life jackets. Instructors. You Provide: A good attitude and willingness to learn. Appropriate swimwear and footwear.


Learn2 Paddle River

This summer, certified instructors will offer Learn2 Paddle River where you can learn the basics of paddling on the river. The program requires pre-registration but is FREE. Participants are encouraged to bring their own kayak, life jackets, paddles and wear appropriate attire for getting wet.


Tuesdays on the Trail Tram Tours

See Katy Trail State Park on a tram tour! Senior citizens can experience Katy Trail State Park from the comfort of a tram coach on the Tuesdays on the Trail tours. The tram tours are round trip and last approximately 2 hours. A variety of routes offer visitors a chance to see stretches of the trail they may not be able to experience otherwise. Each tour will host approximately 50 people. An interpretive guide with a PA system will provide a presentation on the history of the Katy Trail, and commentary on the local natural and cultural history along the trail. Snacks and bottled water are provided to each participant.


WIN: Women in Nature: Weekend

Have you ever wanted to explore the great outdoors but did not know where to begin? WIN: Women in Nature is a new program being hosted at multiple state parks throughout the year. All programs and classes are taught by women and created for women, and provide the opportunity to learn by doing. Weekend programs offer at least six activities for participants.
