First Day Hike Monday, January 1, 2024 1:00 p.m. Thunderbird Lodge Washington State Park will once again host a First Day Hike on January 1, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. starting at the Thunderbird Lodge! This year's theme is "hike, bike, and trike" with a choice of two options. Participants can either take part in a moderately rugged interpretive-led 1 1/2 mile guided hike on the 1000 Step Trail, or they can bring any human-powered wheeled equipment (bikes, trikes, and strollers), to walk along the Big River Day Use Area/Shelter #2 access road, approximately one mile total. Following the hike, a warming station and snacks will be provided for participants. Please note that the 1000 Step Trail portion is only for hiking (no equipment allowed). The 1000 Step Trail option is a natural trail hiking surface, whereas the Big River Day Use Area/Shelter #2 access road is a vehicle road surface (for all equipment or a more accessible hiking option). Please dress accordingly for this outdoor winter experience. This event is free and open to all age groups. For questions contact Washington state park at 636-586-5768.
