Washington State Park will host a First Day Hike on Jan. 1, 2025, starting at the Thunderbird Lodge. This year's theme is "Hike, Bike and Trike," with a choice of two options. Participants can take part in an interpreter-led hike on the rugged 1,000 Steps Trail, or they can bring any human-powered wheeled equipment, such as bikes, trikes or strollers, to pedal or walk along the Big River Day-Use Area/Shelter #2 access road. The 1,000 Steps Trail option will be 1.5 miles, and the road option will be about 1 mile. Following the hike, a warming station and snacks will be provided. 1,000 Steps Trail is a natural surface trail and is open to hiking only; no equipment is allowed. The Big River Day-Use Area/Shelter #2 access road is paved and is open to all equipment. It is also a more accessible option for hiking. Both options are free and open to all ages. Participants are encouraged to dress accordingly for this outdoor winter experience. For more information, contact Washington State Park at 636-586-5768. To check the status of the hike, visit our Park and Site Status Map. Registration is required for this event. SAME DAY REGISTRATION AVAILABLE. HIKE TIME: 1 P.M. - 3 P.M. MEETING LOCATION: THUNDERBIRD LODGE
