Learn about park history of the 1800s at stops along a 2.5 mile scenic hike in the Gans Creek Wild Area. This moderate difficulty hike will go off-trail through open woods for about half a mile. Enjoy vistas from a 100 ft. high bluff overlooking Gans Creek and from a shelter cave half-way up on a bluff. Explore this cave that likely was used by American Indians. If the creek is not up, we'll walk in Gans Creek on the bedrock and gravel bars for about 300 meters. Visit the ruins of the Reyburn cabin and hear readings from an 1891 diary of a gentleman who lived nearby. For ages 8 and up. No dogs please. Dress for the weather and wear shoes for muddy/snowy conditions. Bring water to drink. There is no restroom available. Free, but space is limited and reservations are required. Park at Wagon Wheel Trailhead with overflow parking alongside Bearfield Road that deadends at the park.
